Oil price falls after surprise supply increase (AP)

Oil and natural gas prices dropped Thursday after the government said the U.S. ended 2011 with little need for more fuel. Here's how energy contracts traded.

On the New York Mercantile Exchange:

Benchmark crude fell $1.41 to finish at $101.81 per barrel.

Gasoline fell 4.87 cents to end at $2.7365 per gallon.

Heating oil fell 5.11 cents to finish at $3.0388 per gallon.

Natural gas fell11.6 cents to end at $2.98 per 1,000 cubic feet.

On the ICE Futures exchange in London:

Brent crude fell 96 cents to finish at $112.74 per barrel.
