Workers are expressing confidence both in their companies and in their own value in the marketplace. As a result, a significant percentage of professionals say they'll likely look for new jobs this year, according to a recent survey from Glassdoor, a career/recruitment community site. Perhaps it's because a minority of them expect raises and/or cost-of-living adjustments this year. Or it could simply be that they've held on to their current positions far longer than they originally expected to out of uncertainty about the shaky economy over the last several years. "It appears that the extreme highs and lows are behind us," says Glassdoor career and workplace expert Rusty Rueff, who ran global HR departments at Electronic Arts and PepsiCo before co-authoring Talent Force: A New Manifesto for the Human Side of Business. "The slow and conservative pace workers are seeing within their own employment situation is causing them to evaluate whether the grass may be greener with another employer. It is now more important than ever for companies to engage with employees to find out what will keep them on the job?or face an impending growth in their turnover rate." Nearly 2,250 adults took part in the research.
